Rio Tinto Alcan saving millions with no SO2 scrubbers
Kitimat's mayor failed to get support from his council this week -- in an effort to boost the pressure on Rio Tinto to install salt water scrubbers to reduce emissions from its smelter.
Phil Germuth tabled a motion for the District to support the installation of scrubbers, which would remove harmful SO2 emissions from Rio Tinto's smelter.
After approximately 45 minutes of debate the vote took place. The motion was defeated by a vote of 4 to 3.
